I have been assigned as a part time credentialed librarian at both Colton Middle and Terrace Hills Middle School sites for the 2009-10 school year. As a result, an important policy will impact the entire school community. Students may only use the library at certain times. The library may only be used for returning and checking out books before school begins. During the school day, students may use the library during class visits or with a teacher pass. The library will be opened for general use during lunch time. The library tech determines how many students may utilize library services at that time. Currently, the library will remain closed after school.
This is the policy as I best understand it today. I will write additional posts as further information becomes available. Hopefully, the economy will improve where more librarians will be hired. Student access will increase as a result. This is an updated version of an earlier September post. Library orientations will begin on Tuesday September 15, 2009. The September-October orientations will provide an overview of the library, rules, OPAC, and databases for seventh and ninth grade Language Arts/English students. Afterwards, teachers may arrange for information literacy research projects on topics of their choice. The PPTS will be include on the Pathfinder section from Geltch Middle School and High School Library websites located at Educational Sites. Below is the Google link where teachers & students should be able to retrieve the specific September 2009 PPTs http://sites.google.com/site/gelcjusdlibrary/colton-libraries-september-2009
