To begin spring break on a positve note, I have included the following songs supporting reading and libraries on the right hand section of this page. The Ocoee Middle School broadcaasted a video titled "Gotta Keep Reading" in December. They were even featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. On Wednesday March 24, Natalie Merchant dedicated her song "Kind and Precious" to librarians who inspired her over the years. Even in these difficult economic times where library budgets are being slashed, remember there are many who support us. Encourage them to join us in the literacy fight for our youth across the nation. I will add more when I come across them. In the meantime, enjoy these musical selections.

During Women's History Month, the CHS Thespian & Choir will present "Little Women" on March 12, 13, 18-20 at the Whitmer Auditorium at 7:00 PM. There will be also matinee performances on the Saturday date. To get in the frame of mind to view the performance take a look at scenes of the PBS broadcast of Louisa May Alcott's The Women Behind Little Women http://www.pbs.org/teachers/connect/resources/7588/preview/
Image located at http://www.biography-and-biographies.com/Authors/Little-Women.jpg Sunday March 8 commemorates International Women's History Day Month. It's a time to honor the accomplishments of women around the world. Test your knowledge by taking the quiz sponsored by the National Women's History Project http://www.nwhp.org/whm/test.php
In the spirit of this occasion, I have included several useful websites support female students at CHS, especially in matters of health and relationships. They are as follows: *Centers for Young Women's Health http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/ *Girls Health Gov http://www.girlshealth.gov/ *Websites for Girls http://userpages.umbc.edu/~korenman/wmst/links_girls.html As this day approaches, think about all that the women in your life from you mom, sister, aunt, grandmother, girlfriend, etc. have done to make yours better. Image from http://www.hostos.cuny.edu/library/hcc/images/womens.jpg March 2 is the official date for Read Across America in commemoration of Theodor Geisel"s (aka Dr. Seuss) Birthday. Even though the organizers of this event concentrate their energies on elementary students, the CHS library will also celebrate this occasion. Yellowjacket Literate members may select any book of their choosing for Thursday March 25 discussion time. On Friday March 12, students may share their favorite book of 2009 in a video tape session. For those who are less vocally inclined, Glogster is a wonderful online tool to create book displays. Ms. Geltch's Glog of her Top 5 books of 2009 is http://youthadvocate.glogster.com/ms-geltchs-favorite-reads-of-2009/. Please include your the URL for your glogs in the comment section. Hopefully, this will inspire a new love of reading.
